Care starts with
a closer look.

Everyday care makes a difference. Start with the grass, plants and conditions on your property.

Mow for your grass type
  1. Identify your grass before choosing a mowing height. Keep the mower blade sharp and avoid removing more than one-third of the leaf height in a single mowing.
  2. Leave healthy clippings on the lawn when they can disperse. Adjust mowing frequency to growth rather than a fixed calendar.

Check moisture before watering
  1. Consider rainfall, soil moisture and your grass type before running irrigation. Avoid keeping the lawn continually wet.
  2. Check sprinkler coverage if one area stays dry while nearby turf is wet. Plant beds and newly planted root balls may need different attention from established turf.

Follow your treatment instructions
  1. Use the directions provided for your specific treatment, including when people and pets may return and whether watering is needed.
  2. If instructions are missing or unclear, contact the office before watering, mowing or adding another lawn product.

Fertilizer and lime recommendations should follow soil-test results and the needs of your grass or plants. Timing and product choices vary. NC State Extension’s lawn guide is a useful reference.
